Google

Senior Interaction Designer, Ads, October 2021–current

Closely partner with other designers, directors, product, engineering and UX researchers to explore and deliver new features for Google Ads, Focused on deals, loyalty and trust within the advertising space, now focused on format evolution. Create decks for leadership to review work, co-run design sprints, and mentor junior designers. Collaborate with other teams for a holistic Google ads/shopping experience.

Focused on the NYT core iOS and Android apps, the mobile web site, the desktop site, internal sites and communications, and NYTimes off-platform. Worked to ensure world-class design and user experience, brand consistency, usability and accessibility. Collaborated with other designers, product owners, developers, and editors in the newsroom, as well as the marketing and advertising departments. Managerial duties included overseeing and mentoring junior designers. Organized inspirational guest speakers to share their work with the team (Andy Clymer, typographer; Swoon, artist; Steve ESPO Powers, artist).

Managed junior designers, production artists, and photo editors. Collaborated with product developers, editors, IA/UX and visual designers to create elegant/usable design solutions and visualize interactions for NYMag’s various brands (nymag.com, Vulture, Grub Street, the Cut, and MenuPages). Designed page templates, UI elements, newsletters. Created markup and CSS for pages, modules, HTML emails, and daily homepage ledes. Worked on multi-disciplinary teams in the Agile/Scrum methodology.

Sometimes spend evenings and weekends working on one-off design projects. New York Sports Express

Art Director, June 2003–July 2004

Cover design, page layout, and illustration. This free weekly paper was produced in a 14-hour span, requiring quick decision making. Collaborated with editors and production artists to create an amusing, handsome piece of sports news and opinion.
